This Privacy Policy describes how ChatPDF ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect and How We Collect It

Document content: When you add a document — by uploading a PDF, scanning pages with your camera, or importing a web page by URL — the app extracts its text on your device. The document files themselves stay on your device; we do not upload or store your files on our servers.
Chat messages: The messages you type when chatting with your documents are collected at the moment you send them.
Chat history: Your chat sessions and document list are stored locally on your device only.
Subscription information: If you purchase a subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We receive an anonymous subscription status (via RevenueCat) — never your payment details.

We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or advertising identifiers, and the app does not require an account.

Sharing With a Third-Party AI Service (DeepSeek)

What is sent: To generate answers, the extracted text of the documents you add (including text from scanned pages and imported web pages) and your chat messages are transmitted to DeepSeek, a third-party artificial-intelligence service, through our secure server.

Who it is sent to: DeepSeek (deepseek.com). Our server acts only as a relay and does not store your content.

Your permission: This data is sent only after you explicitly agree to it in the app. Before your first message is sent, the app explains what will be shared and with whom, and asks for your consent. If you decline, nothing is transmitted.

What is not sent: No name, email address, device identifiers, or account details accompany this data. It is used solely to generate responses to your requests. Please review DeepSeek's Privacy Policy for how they handle data. We require that third parties processing your data provide the same or equal protection of user data as described in this policy and required by applicable app store rules.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above only to:

Generate AI answers to your questions about your documents
Clean up and structure text from web pages you choose to import
Provide and maintain the app's functionality, including your locally stored chat history
Manage subscriptions and premium features

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.

Third-Party Services

DeepSeek: AI processing of document text and chat messages, as described above, only after your in-app consent.
RevenueCat: Subscription management. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and purchase status. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
bunny.net: Content delivery used to download app resources (such as on-device AI model files). Your documents and messages are never sent to bunny.net.

Each of these providers is contractually and legally required to protect your data with the same or equal protection as described in this policy.

Data Storage, Retention and Security

Your documents, extracted text, and chat history are stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time by deleting chats or documents in the app, or by uninstalling the app. Our relay server does not retain your document text or messages after your request is answered. Data transmitted to DeepSeek is handled according to their retention policy. All transmissions use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we implement appropriate safeguards.

Your Rights and Choices

You choose whether to allow sharing with the AI service; the app asks for your permission before anything is sent, and declining keeps all content on your device.
You can delete your chat history and documents at any time in the app.
You can contact us to ask how your data is used or to exercise rights available under your local law (such as GDPR or CCPA).

Children's Privacy

Our app is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
